Q: i just got a 1969 SS with a 454 motor and my friends want to race me?
i have a 454 (with turbo edition i think) in my 1969 SS chevelle and my friends have a 5.0 mustang , a 06/07 impala ss. which one would win? how much horsepower do each of these cars have? thanks.
A: you think, you just got a car,so you should know what it has on it,if it has a turbo it wont last long,if it was a supercharger it would last long and win a lot of races,it would be hard to know the horse power because its hard to say what has been done to the engine,it could be running well over 450 horses,no way to know without putting it on a Dino and testing it,good luck,
Q: How hard is it to change a 1969 chevelle SS 396 from 4 speed to automatic?
How hard is it to change a 1969 chevelle SS 396 from 4 speed to automatic? Do I just have to buy a new tranny?
A: Well almost, you need to know what you are doing first, then other things you have to consider. Trans mount set up, manual and auto are different, shift linkage, farly easy to set up and install, driveshat length, So no just buying a trans is not the only thing you have to do, but is do able and a lot easier than switching a auto to a manual
Q: they tell me i should put a supercharger in my 1969 chevelle SS?
they tell me i should put a supercharger in my 1969 chevelle SS? what is that? what does it do and where can i find it for my car? price? is there any websites i can go to?
A: don’t!!!!! you’ve got a classic muscle car. Don’t screw it up with any non-stock mods. you want to go real fast ??? Put a nitros kit on something cheap and replacable. Like a honda or a toyota or a rx-7
Q: Need an estimate on how much power steering for a 1969 Camaro SS would cost?
I am lookin to purchase a 69 Camaro SS (Clone). The onyl thing holding me back is that there is no power steering. I have no clue how much something like that would cost me in parts and labor? I am looking for a good estimate thats all.
A: This should pretty much cover all the parts that you’ll need. These prices are for first gen. Camaro reproduction parts. There are numerous pumps, brackets, and pulleys that would work and probably cost less, but if you want to use rebuilt original or reproduction Camaro parts here you go.
A rebuilt power steering box is around $250
Pressure side hose – $25
Return side hose – $15
A rebuilt pump – $95
Pump bracket set – $85
Pump pulley – $80
Pitman arm – $80
Column coupler – $35
So you’re looking at about $665 in parts. If you can find a complete kit it may be a little cheaper. Labor would probably be $500-750. If you are mechanically inclined at all, it’s not a difficult job. It’s a little time consuming, but not very complicated.
Q: i was considering getting the MicroTRAK GPS for my 1969 chevelle SS?
i was considering getting the MicroTRAK GPS for my 1969 chevelle SS? What do you guys think? pros? cons? is it worth paying all that money for this product and does it actually work?
MicroTrak GPS is used to track down my car if its stolen or to see location of my vehicle
A: I’d say it’s a good idea. Consider what you pay for insurance. If your chevelle is stolen, it could be in parts in less than 24 hours.
You don’t have to pay a tracking fee until the car is stolen. just call them, and they call the police and they tell them where the car is.
They are also working on a product called classic trak for older cars that can be hardwired.
Garmin can’t call the police, and you cant look up your position on the internet with it.
Q: What is the main difference between the 1967 and 1969 Camaro SS cars?
I’m writing a book that would feature one of the cars. I like the Camaro that is shorter and not as long in the front.
A: 67s have no marker lights, mono leaf rear springs, wing windows, the optional guage pod was round on 67s, on the rs option package 67s had vacuum controls for the headlight doors (all other years were electric) and very early 67s had generators not alternators. Also 67 Z28s had no badging it was an available option it was just never marked on the car.
Q: I have a 1969 Camaro SS with a 350, what is the best type of Fuel to use and what type of additives?
I just purchased the car and i have been told different things. Some say low octane 87 or 89 and others said run 94 if you can.
A: well the thing is , is the engine been built or is it all stock,, you can try runing alitle low octain in it and if it ratlles and pings ,, then you need to run higher octain,, the rattle and pinging is call detonation and it can hurt the engine over a long periond of time ,, with easy driveing ,, it can hurt it real quick with hard driveing such as bust a hole in the top of the piston,, if it were mine id just run high test,, just to be on the safe side,, you haft to remeber that in that time era ,, that car was made to produce big power ,, and with big power you need high test fuel,,you could also do a compresion test on the engine and if it has more tha 145 pounds of compresion you should run high test fuel

I just purchased the car and i have been told different things. Some say low octane 87 or 89 and others said run 94 if you can.
A: Ok, I’ll tell you the answer. It just depends on your engines compression ratio, since its a 69 it should be around 9 to 1. In that case you should run right at 89. If you put 87 octane in it you won’t maximum performance if you have around 9 to 1 compression, if you put super high octane like 93 and up, you will just be wasting your money. Unless you are running serious drag motor running on around 12, or 13 to 1. As far as additives, its its older, get the sea foam product. It comes in a silver tall can, and you can pick it up in alost any parts store.
Q: what color should they paint my 1969 chevelle SS?
I’m having a hard time deciding the color of my car. i want a color that stands out, yet a color that i won’t get bored and looks nice. i’m 20 years old and i’m lovin’ those rally strips. Is there a website were one can play with the colors or look at the candy colors? also i’d like if you can tell me or send me pics of colors you recommend. thanks a lot!
A: get like a bright green. like friggin bright lime neon green.
I can’t get sick of that color. and it gets all of the attention.
if you wanna throw some black or dark yellow stripes on there that would be hecka sick.
Q: what would you go for a 04 cobra kenne bell or a 1969 camaro ss cammed out?
questions above and can you tell me why which one my cousins got 35 000 and he like me both love muscle car he dont no which one to go for i told him get the cobra but he said he wants something that will bring fear into ricers lool dont no why but o well ?
A: You have asked this on the UK and Ireland section.
Happening a lot since they redigned the website a few days ago. Most of us in the UK and Ireland will not know one of those cars from our elbows I’m afraid.
Q: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS has been sitting for 8 years how do I get it road worthy?
It hasn’t been started in about 6 years, it has set in our cold damp garage for 8 years. its not even been touched since i started it last in 2004. What is everything i need to do to get it out on the road?
A: If it was mine, I would just check the oil and coolant to make sure it’s all full. Check out everything else like the air cleaner, master cylinder and power steering is full. Put a new battery in it, and fire it up! If it ran when ya parked it, it will run again. It wont run great until you mix some fresh gas in, but it will run! Then after you get it running, you can change all the fluids and filters, probably some new tires! If the brake pedal still feels good, just drive it , see how they feel after driving foe awhile.
Q: I have a 1969 impala ss convertible,i decided on painting it but can not decide on what color?
the conv. top is black, i was thinking on painting the car black or red ,but if u guys or girls have other ideas their welcome too. thanks
the conv. top is black, the interior is also black, i was thinking on painting the car black or red ,but if u guys or girls have other ideas their welcome too. thanks
A: I own a shop, and we do a lot of restoration work. You have a highly sought after vehicle!!! Do yourself a favor, and paint it back the original color, and if you can do it with the same kind of paint that came on it. You’ll be glad you did. I would never go to another color on one like that. I would do a frame off restoration, and try my best to put everything back just like the day it rolled off the assembly line. I would stay away from the clear coat paints. They look good, but wait a few years, and it is a disaster to get the clear coat off of it, and if you paint over it, the clear will still crack (spider web) underneath the new paint, and look like crap. I hope you realize what a rare car you have, and will do the right thing here. Most of these cars belong in a show somewhere, as they are rare, and a joy to drive.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
Q: Does a 1969 Camaro with the RS package necessarily mean it is an SS?
I found a 1969 camaro that definitely has the RS package, but i am not sure if it is an ss or not. Does having an RS package mean the car is always also an SS?
A: Any Camaro could be ordered with the RS package, V6’s, Z/28’s, and SS’s.
One way to tell what kind of car it is is to check the emblems. A V6 would have “rs” while a Z/28 and an SS would have their respective emblems on the car.
Unfortunately, anybody could put any emblem on the car and you wouldn’t know unless you looked at the engine, which no longer applies today as people have changed a lot of the engines (unless its numbers match, which would mean a 302 would be a Z/28 while a 350 or 396 would be an SS)..
The only real way to know today is to either look at the window sticker (which is more often than not missing) or to check the VIN, as it will usually tell you what kind of engine you have.
Great choice on the car though. I love the ‘69 Camaro.
Q: How much does a 1969 Camaro SS cost?
It is a black car with white racing stripes and it also has a V8. he is offering me 15k. it that a good deal?
A: 35-75000 if it’s mint
Q: How much would it cost to restore or clone a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 or Just Z/28?
Hi, I am saving a lot of money right now and I have a lot of time because of a new job and I have around $10,000 saved just for a project. I don’t know where to start though and what things to watch out for. If anyone can help it would be great.
