please is there any possible way? and i would also like to put a new transmition and 7 or 8 gears with a ls1 corvett suspention on it. ps is nitriss(nitro meth it makes cars go really fast) leagle in cars for raceing in the salt pans of new mexico? how much yould all of this cost? and is there a lighter and faster engine i could put in to a 67 z28?
A: “nitriss” What’s that?
“transmition” What’s that?
“leagle” What’s that?
“corvett” What’s that?
You can put any engine into any car, assuming that’s what you’re asking. Just a matter of time, labor and money.
But if you had any experience working on cars, you’d already know that.
Given your lack of experience, the answer is no. Unless you just have tons of money and pay someone else to do it.
Q: whats better a 68 camaro ss or a 67 camaro z28?
A: for rarity , the Z28 would be a rarer car, get up and go , I would have to go with the SS ,if it has a big block
Q: Which muscle car is best for a high school senior?
1978 Z28, 67 Mustang Fastback, or 72 Nova???
He has plans of rebuilding each one, but isn’t sure which one would be best and which one everyone else thinks looks best.
A: The 67 Mustang would be the most expensive to rebuild. There is a much larger demand for one of those then the 1978 Camaro and 72 NOVA. So the Mustang would be the coolest if you can afford it. Novas are a dime a dozen everyone has one. They were the Poor man’s Muscle car. This car is in same league as the Maverick, Hornet, and Duster/Demon. So unless its a big block 427 and has a Yenko stripe down the side who cares.
1978 Camaro and Musclecar shouldnt even be said in the same sentence. IT was a psuedo musclecar that year. Z28 or not. The Firebird was extremely more popular and more adequately powered at that time. There is way too much plastic on the grill and bumpers. But if its (the camaro) done tastefully it could be a nice.. ride.
If the best is the cheapest route… I would pick the NOVA as #1, Camaro #2 , and Mustang #3. But if you want respect from the OG’s
the Mustang would be #1, followed by the Camaro #2, and lastly the SLOVA.
Q: Trading my restored 1981 Camaro Z28 for a beaten-up 1969 Camaro SS.?
Yesterday one of my dads old friends who owns a wreaking yard asked me if i want to trade my 1981 Camaro Z28 that has been built to the bone for a 1969 Camaro SS that is in ok shape I have already seen it. Its in about the same shape that my 1981 was when I first got it.
My 1981 Camaro has a 435hp 350ci engine that cost me if i look at my sale records $2365.87 in total to build. Then the paint is a dark metallic red and the paint and all the materials in total cost me $951.73 in total to do the body work with the paint came around $1000. I have a Hotchkis Sport Suspension TVS system Part No. 80017 with Edelbrock Performer Shocks that cost my in total $1,658.67. That car sits on a set of 15inch American Racing TTD that came to $926.34 for the whole set with BF Goodrich Radial T/As that came up to about $100 a tire i don’t have the sales record on that. Then i rebuilt the Turbo 400 and replaced the brake pads for cheap fuck all. In total the car came up to about $6000 to build.
Do you think i should trade my tricked out 81 Camaro Z28 for a 1969 Camaro SS thats in ok yet kind of in sad shape that i know is fixable. The 69 Camaro also dose not have an engine in it but i have a 454 in my back yard that i was saving for a if i ever get a 1970 Chevelle but i think it would love to find a home in a 69 Camaro. Also i already have a 1971 V8 Vega Wagon Project on the go so i won’t be able to start working on it right away. I’m also helping a friend build a 1979 Camaro Z28 to the same specs I did mine. Do you think this would cause an car building over load. I need some opinions on this.
These are all really good answers for opinions I have nothing against any of them. I especially like the idea of keeping the engines and put the that 350 into the V8 Vega I’m building and still go forward with the 454 for the 69 Camaro. I have already confirmed the car is a real SS on the VIN # I will show you the actual car. Click on this link http://www.readytofix.com/Ad/1969_Camaro_Flood.htm and the actual car is further down the list that says 1969 SS – Insurance Flood Car – $3,100. Any other information you would like me to add just ask.
I have asked if I can do the trade for the 69 Camaro but I get to keep the 350 in my 81 Camaro and it was a no go.
A: Get the ‘69, that car will always be worth more and turn more heads than the ‘81 ever will. Slap that 454 in it and you will have one very sick ride. And if it’s a true SS, then you will command even more respect than the ‘81. Sounds like you built up a great ‘81, but if it was me, I’d let it go if I could get the ‘69 for a fair price
Q: First Generation Camaro RS / Z28 / SS Differences?
I am getting ready to restore a 67 Camaro. I am looking for a site that will tell me what options where available in each model of the camaro. For instance, the RS had these two engines and these types of seats and was available in these colors, the Z28 had these engines, and these seats and these colors were available, etc…. Can anybody tell me where to find this info or just break it down for me. I am looking to keep it semi stock, but custom to my on taste at the same time. The engine and transmission are gone and there is no interior, just a body, frame, and 4 flat tires so its a blank canvas for me to do what I please.
A: The RS was an appearance package that included hidden headlights, revised taillights, RS badging, and exterior rocker trim. It was available on all models.
The SS included a 350 (5.7L) V8 engine and the L35 and L78 396(6.5L) big-block V8’s were also available. The SS featured non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping and SS badging on the grille, front fenders, gas cap, and horn button. It was possible to order both the SS and RS to receive a Camaro SS/RS. In 1967, a Camaro SS/RS convertible with a 396(6.5L) engine paced the Indianapolis 500 race.
The Z/28 option code was introduced in December 1966 for the 1967 model year. This option package wasn’t mentioned in any sales literature, so it was unknown to most buyers. The Z/28 option required power front disc brakes and a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. The Z/28 featured a 302(5.0L) small-block V-8 engine,
Q: 67 camaro with 00 camaro parts POLL?
I’ve noticed that old 60’s camaros have REALLY dropped in price because so many people are going out and buying the brand new ones.
I have a 2000 z28 that runs close to 500hp at the rear wheels, 6 speed manual, suspension is still great, interior is great, detroit locker in the rear end, and tons of mods to the motor that aren’t important for my question..
the question is,
if i were to buy a 67, 68 or 69 camaro, and use my 2000 camaro as a donor car, would that be sacrilege?
i mean, use the seats, use the console, possibly the dash, 100% of the wiring harness, the steering column, the engine, the transmission, the rear end, the suspension, and anything else i can possibly fit in that car with a lot of persuasion, and a welder? including maybe some of the floor pans and such…
obviously all original cars are worth more, but… i could give a crap less about having an all original 60’s camaro, OR what it would be worth when i was finished with it. I’d be building it for MYSELF not to sell, so it doesn’t matter what people would pay for it. i just want the original body style with all of the modern comforts and RELIABILITY to include the AC, the fuel injection, etc.. my camaro has NEVER left me stranded. But i’ve had a lot of old school 350s that left me up sh!ts creek in the middle of nowhere because the carbs decided to flood, or the timing got knocked out of whack for some reason. If you drive it every day, you’re working on it every OTHER day.
The first thing people are going to say is that it will take a lot of money to have someone do this…
i’ve restored several cars of my own… it’s not a walk in the park, but, it is a hobby of mine. When i was younger, i worked with my dad who built custom street rods for famous people here in Texas. I know what i’m doing and can do most of it myself so that’s not a problem..
the second thing people will say is that these things won’t fit..
that’s what welders and cutting torches are for…
i can make it work… my question is, would it be sacrilege?
maybe i’d keep the original dashboard and gauges and such, but anything else i could fit would definitely go in. i don’t have a ton of money to buy OEM parts, so would be looking into my current ride for the donor…
ok… enough talking…
what do you think????
A: Interior fas far as seats and consol would be a great swap and pretty easy.
You could fit the dash with enough modding but myself I would leave the stock 1st gen dash and up date it with aftermarket gauges maybe even digital units
The engine/trans swap wouldnt be too hard to pull off. The LS swaps are more common now so places are making headers, engine mounts, etc to bolt right into older cars.
The wiring for the enine/trans would be easy to install using yours to retro fit the 1st gen with.
Leave rest of the 1st gen wiring along like tail lights and what not.
Now to do that swap, you will need to pull the fuel tanks and mod the 1st gen to fit your in tank lec fuel pump into the 1st gen’s tank.
Also you would need to run a return fuel line
Leave the rear end along. If you still have a 7.625″ 10 bolt in your camaro with 500 RWHP count your self lucky that it aint broke yet. Thats the weakest rear end GM used in RWD cars.
I had a 7.625″ 10 bolt, with yukon alloy axles, powertrax locker, TA support cover, timkin bearings, etc etc. Broke it with just 505 HP at the crank. After putting another one in and breaking it the next weekend, I went to a ford 9″ and never looked back.
The 4th gen uses a great rear suspension design, but truthfully I wouldnt try to retro fit it to a 1st gen.
Theres too many other and better ways of going as far as rear suspension goes
Non of the front suspension would be an easy swap. The two cars are just way too diff.. (shock car vs strut car)
Now on a side note.. A carb’ed engine shouldnt give you the kind of trouble you had. I drive mine daily for the last 6 years.. Never once left me sitting, carb never flooded out, no probs at all.. Before that all my cars has “old school” v8 carb’ed engines as well.. I have only owned one EFI car and that was a datsun 300ZX lol
You just have to learn how to work on a carb and tune in. Most probs like you had are due to 1 of 2 things. Float level not set right, or fuel pressure going too carb too high. Lke say edelbrock carbs, out of box the floats are set wrong, and they can only take 5.25 psi fuel pressure before the needles starts to push out of seats.
Holley’s can take 6.25-6.5 psi before that happens, Q jets (I aint ran on in quite a while but IIRC was 6.0)
Also no carb out of the box is ready to run on YOUR engine. Sure it will fire up, and drive straight out of the box, but it needs to be tuned to your combo. Eaither at home and on the drag strip, or on the dyno.. Dail it in. Right pump cams, squiters, jets, rods, power valves, step up springs, etc etc for your engine
Q: What’s your favorite car of the muscle car era?
BTW….mine is the 67-69 Camaro Z28 ss/rs
A: I own a shop, do a lot of restoration work, and out of all the muscle cars there is, the one that stands out in the crowd is a 1969 Camaro Z-28. This just happens to be the most highly sought after muscle car on the face of the earth. One in pristine condition would bring $250,000 easily. I know it has a small block 302, but this car was incredibly fast, and everything about the car just makes one fall in love.
Glad to add my 2 cents worth. Good Luck!!!
Q: what are some other good power adders for a (1988 Camaro Base 2.8 Liter 173ci Multi Port Injected V6)?
okay here’s what iv’e done so far cat removed, flowmaster muffler, 2-K&N High Flow Air Filters oh yeah and the turbonator hahahahahaha actually the turbonator probably doesn’t really make any hp or torque but it does make a cool whistling spooling kinda sound anyways now people im not trying to race the car or anything if i wanted to got fast i would drive my 88′IROC L98, 2002 SS, 2002 Z28, 67′ SS 396ci. but i dont because of gas prices i just wanna make this car manueverable on the road because as you all know the 2.8 V6 in the 1980’s Camaro’s was just awful (power wise) but then again it gets about 22 mpg in the city which is decent for a heavy metal body car thats powered by a 173ci V6 so what other mods other than a turbo/supercharger or engine swap would give me a little power increase? thanks for any helpful information
A: Hello my friend- man, you have a nice collection. I love Camaros!
I was also asking about performance parts for the 2.8L V6 Chevy fuel injected engine here on ‘answers.’
I believe that Hypertech makes a performance computer chip for the 2.8 GM engine-
check out this link:
http://www.hypertech-inc.com/Products/
And there are a number of other performance mods you can do, too. Let me think for a moment here…
1. Install a 160* thermostat (it will keep the engine running cooler, and will give you a little bit more power)
2. Install a 160* fan switch
3. Use Royal Purple synthetic engine oil
4. You might be able to gain 5 hp or so if you install dual exhaust pipes, and dual flowmaster mufflers (I would consult an exhaust shop and a mechanic first and find out for sure if you would really benefit from duals)
And there are several other ideas-
You could install a more aggressive camshaft in the engine. You could also have the heads ported. You could probably also get an MSD ignition for the Camaro, too, and use high quality race plug wires, like Taylor, MSD, Accel, etc. And, you could use Accel or other high performance ignition components.
Good luck with your Camaro!!!!!!!! Take care.
Q: Old school vs new school what school are u?
porche, Audi, Rx8, mitsubishi, honda you can have them all cause i dont want them give me good old fashion raw horse power chevelle ss: 67 impala ss, z28, hemi cuda, shelby gt 500, Gto judge, the 454,327,396, 350 i want the loud noisy rumble of good old fasion american muscle not these the fast and the furious reject cereal box cars. i dont need a cd player or a radio, power doors or windows all i need is a whirwind of ferocious power under the hood and il listen to that tund all day. heads up new school.
A: I own a shop, and have been racing for longer than a lot of people have been alive on here. I’m old school, but I do have to say I’m impressed with some of the things the Honda’s, and Subaru’s have done, but on the flip side of the coin, put turbo’s on a built small block Chevrolet, and what do you have? Comfort?? If you want comfort, then go crawl in your easy chair. If you want power that will throw your body in the back seat, then you need a little thunder to do it. If anyone ever drives a 502, 427, 426, 396, 351, 350, 327 or a 302, then they will never go back. Chevrolet, Ford, or Chrysler has ruled, and still rules the race tracks across America. Until they prove differently, I will stay true to good ole American Detroit Muscle. I don’t need, want, or have a fancy for bling in my ride, because my ride is my bling. Pull your Honda up beside my old pick up truck on the street, and the object in my mirror won’t be closer than you think. I could get on the other side of 200 mph in 5th gear, but then again I don’t think I will have to since I haven’t seen any of them able to do that. If that won’t get-er-done, then I can always go get my drag car, it’s Detroit Muscle too. Don’t know how fast it will go, never been as fast as it will go, but I can lay down 100 yards of rubber in first gear, so is this why I’m old school… YEP!!!
Glad to add my 2 cents worth!!!
Q: 1969 Yenko Camaro vs 1969 boss 429 mustang who would win in a drag?
you know (the Yenko Built by Don Yenko) with the 450hp 427 Corvette Inspired Engine while the boss has its 429 which had i believe 375hp obvious the Yenko Camaro Would kill the 69′boss due to the Yenko Camaro Having more Horsepower im more of a Chevy guy anyways i have Camaros the only ford i would ever drive is probably 1967 Shelby GT500 or a New 2007 Shelby GT500 than that the Camaro/Corvette will kill any ford even the Shelby GT500’s 67′ or 2007since the Z28 and or SS Camaro’s are nearly identical to the Corvette in fact the only thing is that GM/Chevy detunes the Camaro so that it is not 100% Corvette if it wasnt for that The Camaro Would be exactly a Corvette base and or Z06 but anyways who would win between a 1969 SYC Yenko Camaro 427 450hp vs a 1969 boss 429 mustang 375hp in a straight drag race?
A: Yenko for sure!!!!!
