Q: Does anyone know where I can find a used 96 Impala in so cali area?
Does anyone know where I can find a dealership that will have a used 96 Chevrolet impala? I tried Craigslist, not so helpful. Im located near L.A,Palmdale, and the San Fernando Valley. I tried to look this up online too with the dealerships site , not so helpful either! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
A: About all you can do is keep an eye on the advertised vehicles available through sites like autotrader.com, cars.com, and craigslist. You may even consider CarMax because they can check the inventories of their many locations.
Otherwise, you’re subject to what’s available at any given time.
Best of luck. I hope this helps.
Q: What to add or upgrade on a 96 impala ss to gain more hp? No turbo or supercharger.?
I have a stock 96 impala ss and I want to get more horse power, but I’m just not sure where to start. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Im not trying to get it super or turbo charged at the moment.
A: This car used the LT1 V8 similar to what was used in the Corvette that year.
It would be wise not to get too carried away with performance upgrades on a 14 year old car. The overall condition of the car needs to be good or the car won’t last long at all.
The very first thing I would do is a complete tune-up. New plugs, wires, all new filters, etc. Just get the same AC platinum plugs that the factory installed. You don’t need anything better on a mildly built engine. Go with a decent set of plug wires, but don’t get too carried away. Something about the same quality that was installed at the factory is all you need. Go with a low restriction air filter element, but don’t waste money on a cold air kit. If you follow the path of the factory intake, it already gets cold air from outside the engine compartment.
Lots of things you can do to this car. Personally, I would go with some internal improvements first.
Upgrade the camshaft, lifters, and valve springs
Upgrade the intake manifold
Install some headers.
These will cost you less than $500. This will help wake this car up.
Don’t waste your time with the trendy external bolt ons. Things like a cold air kit, fancy spark plug wires, and spark plugs, look cool, but don’t really help all that much.
When you are ready to step it up a bit, install a set of aftermarket aluminum heads. However a good set of heads will cost you.
Q: What makes the 90’s Chevy Caprice sit higher than 94-96 Impala SS?
I have a 95 Impala SS and my cousin has a 96 Caprice. His Caprice sits 2-3″ higher than my Impala. Just wondering why.
A: Different springs.
Q: How fast can a all stock 96 Impala SS go?
I want to get a car and I have a big interest between a
96 Impala SS or a Cop Crusier Crown Victoria
A: I had a ‘94 and a ‘96 Impala SS. They would both hit mid-140’s stock. I think that I had the ‘94 to 143 and the ‘96 to 145. They got to 130-135 pretty quickly but the you better have a very long straight road for the last 10 mph.
Q: Custom fitting factory wheels from 10 Camaro to 96 impala?
I want to make the 2010 camaro 5x 120.7 rims fit my 96 impala 5x 127 is there a way to do it?
A: The only way would be to get different hubs for the Impala. If you look here: http://adaptitusa.com/referencebook.htm you’ll find there’s a whole slew of GM cars and trucks with the same bolt pattern. All you’d have to do is find a car that has hubs that will fit your Impala.
Q: how do you know if a 94-96 impala ss is really an impala ss or a caprice made to look like an impala ss?
it’s so easy to “clone” impala ss and i don’t want to make a $10k+ mistake.
A: Look on the title.A sure way!
Q: Whats faster a 96 ss impala or 2001+ ford crown vic police interceptor?
Whats faster a 96 ss impala or 2001+ ford crown vic police interceptor?
A: hat does it matter. When the lights come on behind you, your speed should slow down to zero.
But for the record, the Impala can out accelerate the Ford if they are both equipted with the standard police packages.

Q: How much would it cost to install a flowmaster cat back exhaust on a 96 impala SS?
If I already have the kit, what would the approximate cost of labor be?
A: dont know but damn thats one badass car..i still regret not having gotten it
Q: What is a mechanics labor rate to replace an optispark type cap and rotor on a 96 Impala SS?
Also, whats the rate for replacing an exhaust manifold gasket on the passenger side?Is there anywhere online I can view these rates without buying the Chilton book?
A: About 4 hours with heavy-duty cooling for the distributor..
Manifold gasket, right side-3.1
Q: How much torque do i have to apply to the valves on a 96 Impala with an LT1 (350, V8) engine?
Im referring to the nuts on the rocker arms. How much torque needs to be applied when tightening them up?
A: try a lash adjustment. tighten them until you can just feel a lil play when working them(pre-oiled and just meaning tugging) itll get you close
Q: What is the best performance exhaust system to buy for my 96 impala ss ?
A: Depends…check out some sites and see what they have for your car. A cat-back system will probably be the best if you want about another 20HP for the least amount of money. i.e. Borla, Flowmaster.
If money is no object, look at getting some headers also, but they’re not cheap.
Do you already have a cold air intake? That’ll get you another 10-15 HP.
Q: Can you put a manual transmission in a 94-96 impala ss?
I know all of them come stock with a 4 speed automatic, but can i put a manual transmission in one?
A: Since it’s rear wheel drive, it would be simple and inexpensive compared to putting a V8 engine in a VW bug.
Q: what is the best performance exhaust system to buy for my 96 impala ss ?
i dont want a really loud exhaust a nice sound(quiet sound) but more performance than anything.
A: Flowmaster is known as one of the best . See link below for an example on a ZR- 1 engine and you can see the horsepower gain yet the exhaust wasn’t loud.
Q: How can I tell the differance between a real 96 impala and an ss clone?
A: The interior has to be leather, and have the impala logo’s stirched into the seatback. They are also the ONLY floor shift models. There is also a difference in suspension. The sway bars are thicker than stock, the spring rates are higher, and the shocks are stiffer. There are a lot of differences. Don’t be fooled. Most clones are also easy to spot in the paint. They only came in 3 colors.
Black
Cherry Black
Gun Metal Grey(greyish green)
Best thing to do is take it to the Chevy dealer and let them check the VIN. There is a letter code that distinguishes between the Impala and the Caprice.
PS. I had a 96 SS. And there is a HUGE difference between the 2 cars. Just because the sheetmetal is the same, doesn’t mean the engineering or performance is.
Just a side note…But to ‘CLONE’ an Impala SS would cost more that what you could sell it for. Think about it, first you need a Caprice, then you need to strip it, paint it, replace all trim, interior, steering column, dashboard, wheels, brakes, suspension, tires, engine, tail lights, all new emblems, overhead digital display on headliner, computer….The list goes on and on. By the time you’re done, you’ve spent well over 40 grand, and could only sell it for 25 grand…and that guy who bought it would have to be a sucker.
Q: Can a lt4 conversion kit bring a 96 Impala ss to 400 horsepower if it already has exhaust and headers?
A: No. That conversion kit will only get you 425Hp Flywheel if you’re lucky, after you do all supporting mods, ie intake, exhaust, headers, and tuning. You can get much better performance from top end kits from www.advancedinduction.com and spend about the same if not less.
