Q: I have a question aboutin about a 1984 Monte Carlo?
Is there any way you could put a front end of a 84 Monte Carlo SS on the front end of a 84 Monte Carlo regular style. I dont like the looks of the regular body style but i love the looks of the SS style.
A: Yes. Aside from the nose, headlight buckets, headlight to fender brackets, front spoiler, and front fender extensions the std. model and the SS are identical. You could try to find a complete front clip, or just do the nose conversion. There are a few companies that sell complete kits, so you don’t have to track down all of the parts. Link below.
Q: What type of engine would you put in a 1984 monte carlo with a 350 turbo transmission?
I just bought the car a year ago and I’m trying to bring it back to life. More or less make it a good muscle car. Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
A: a 327 would be good for it if you need a tough engine, if its power you want go with a 350
Q: 1984 monte carlo ss, I might get it from someone on craigslist and i want to know are there ecu governors?
I want to know if the mph is governed as well as the rpm. if so how to delete the governor.
A: I agree with Harley drive, there should only be a carburator, unless the engine is swapped in from a newer vehicle.
Q: I need to know how much a 1984 Monte Carlo SS is worth by the blue book?
Everything is stock, 350 engine, automatic, mint condition, ground effects, cd player, power windows and locks, interior is dark blue and the exterior is the original blue color.
A: Go to kellybluebook.com. URL: http://www.kbb.com/
You’ll find all your answers there.
Q: how to install an ignition switch on an 1984 monte carlo ss?
lost my original keys, bought a new ignition switch and i need 2 install it!!
A: you have to completely pull the steering wheel off of it and remove the lock plate, this requires some special tools to do this with, and i suggest you let a shop do it,if you have never done this before you wont have the needed tools to do it with, and its not an easy job,a shop will charge around 60 bucks to change it,and its worth every penny of it too,you wont be able to complete this job without a few special tools though, and steering columns are real easy to get messed up,and they cost a lot to replace also, good luck on it.
Q: I have a 1984 Monte Carlo what causes my power to shut down on radio, horn and lights it is not the alternator.?
What causes my lights, horn and radio to stop working when I cut my headlights on. Right know I have them straight wired to work but if I have my headlights on there is very little power showing on my battery gauge I am afraid that my car might cut-off on the highway or something. When it rains the power will return but as soon as I cut on the lights it goes away. The power to my windows always work.
A: Your details do provide the clue I was looking for. It is acting like a voltage issue. Try this, hook some jumper wires up to your car and another and have the other car running so you get full voltage. Does the issue go away? If so then replace the voltage regulator on the assumption some relay is incapable of closing under a low voltage condition. If not then it’s looking like an ignition switch maybe. Jiggle the key around with the headlights and radio on while you still have the other car jumped to yours. If it hiccups then there you have it. Get to work on your steering column. Otherwise it’s an 84 and dynamite may help. Just kidding.
Q: Where does the power steering fluid go on a 1984 monte carlo?
A: Drivers side of the engine(if its a V8) under the AC compressor. It is tucked in there a bit. There is a round lid on the power steering pump/ reservoir. You can locate it following the large pulley back to it.

The T-Tops were not installed in the factory- I bought the factory seals and they were not close to being correct. The tag on the car and the sticker on the t-top say “Cars and Concepts”. Can anyone suggest a place to have custom ones made if necessary? Thanks

Q: I got a 1984 Monte Carlo my car as it drives jumps out of drive into neutral?
I took off the dash board around the steering column and the cable is connected with a clamp on one side and the other end of the cable is not connected to anything
A: This most likely means your transmission needs rebuilt. I would either take your car to a shop and have it checked or simply take the transmission pan off and do a transmission service. While the pan is off check inside the bottom of the pan for debris. A little is normal as it results from clutch material used up as the vehicle is driven. However if there is a lot, say a pile or piles of material in the bottom of the pan then you are probably looking at a rebuild. Even if the inside of the pan is clean you could still have a problem. You are probably looking at spending around 1500.00 for a rebuilt transmission with a 6 or 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. Good luck with your car.
Q: We want to restore a 1984 Monte Carlo?
I want to help restore my fiance’s car as a wedding present but we have no money to do it and probably never will. I went for overhaulin the show but i found out the show was canceld. How do i go about getting this done without costing me a fortune.
A: The reality is you don’t. Even if you did all the work yourself restoration projects cost a lot of money. Nobody does it free. Either you save the money and pay for it or you forget about the project.
Q: PLEASE HELP 1984 MONTE CARLO?
IM ABOUT TO BUY A CAR AND THE CAR THAT IM LOOKING AT HE SAY’S THAT THE EXHAUST IS NOT HOOKED UP. AND it is hard 4 the car to stay on for a long period time because you’re not supposed 2 drive a car with no exhaust. IS THIS TURE. ITS A 1984 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO IT LOOKS NICE NEW PAINT JOB.
A: The car should be able to run for as long as it has gas with or without exhaust system hooked up but it can not be driven. The fumes go into the passenger compartment and could lead to the driver passing out or even dying. Plus there are usually sound ordinances that it will not pass without the exhaust. I would be suspicious of this though. If he has the exhaust why doesn’t he hook it up, probably hiding something. If he doesn’t have one use your best judgment.

A: Why don’t you just buy a Chilton repair manual from a bookstore, make a copy of the page you need, and then take te book back? You can alos go to a local library and just borrow the manual.
