Q: Not too pricy ways to increase horsepower in 87 Monte Carlo?
87 Monte Carlo just dropped in 350 trans and getting ready to drop 350 motor in next week

A: add a set of headers and a new set of 3.55 gears in the rearend will really wake it up.

Q: would it be cheaper to insure a 87 monte carlo ss rather than a 99-04 mustang GT?
I love the monte carlo and since its older, would it be cheaper to insure. Its a sports car and its a 2 door coupe. Would it be any cheaper?

the 87 Monte Carlo will definitely be cheaper to insure. It has a lower numerical risk symbol than the Mustang.

I checked my rating software, The 87 Mote Carlo has an ISO risk symbol number 14, The Mustang GT, 1997 and 2004 models both have a risk symbol number of 24. In general, the higher the number the more the insurance will cost.

Whether your planning to buy Full Coverage or Liability,, Both will be cheaper on the Monte Carlo no matter where you buy insurance,

Q: what major things will i need to swap engines from 81 cutlass 305 into a 87 monte carlo 3.6 liter?
i have these two cars and i find the 87 monte carlo looks better but the cutlass has a 305 HO in it. i want to swap them and wondering if i can get any advise on what i will need to swap them. also im swapping them in my welding shop so i have most tools

A: You probably have everything you need in the Cutlass, since they’re on the same platform (G-body). Otherwise just make sure you have an engine hoist, it’s kind of important.

Q: Heater Core useless in an 87 monte carlo?
I have a monte carlo with a 355. It has no working ac. Is it safe to reroute around the heater core. Meaning X the core and bypass it completely?
I know the heater core is for your heat and defrost. the reaon I would reroute it is because its leaking. why would I replace it if I don’t use any of the features? Its a drag car. but the question is, is it safe?

A: It is safe, replacing the heater core is about a 4 hour job.

Q: Putting some wheels on a ‘87 Monte Carlo?
I want to put some Keystone Klassic’s on my ‘87 Monte Carlo LS but Im not sure of the backspacing for the rear wheels, any suggestions?
I want the rear wheels to be deeper than the front but Im not sure how deep I can go and what the backspacing would be

A: Unless you go a lot bigger they should fit right on.

Q: 87 monte carlo it wont start has good connections new battery new starter getting spark and fuel?

A: A shot of starting fluid into the carb or throttle body will let you
know whether or not you are getting the fuel into the manifold.

Q: Where to find a double power steering pump pulley for an 87 Monte Carlo SS?
I’ve got a 1987 Monte Carlo SS. I replaced the power steering pump due to a leak. The original pump had a double pulley and double belt set up. The replacement only came with a single pulley. I installed it with the single pulley and belt and the power steering doesn’t work so well anymore. I know that I need to get a double pulley, but I can’t find one. Anyone got any suggestions?
It needs to be a press on pulley and not a keyed one.

Q: What mufflers would sound good on my 87 monte carlo ss?
right now i have stock and i want a louder sound. But i dont have a very big budget.

Q: 87 monte carlo. starts and runs godd but after about 1 minute it starts wanting to stall out?
i let my 87 monte carlo run and it runs fine for about 1 minute, then it starts getting weaker and it will die out..i think its carb problems not too sure?…its 305 chevy

A: The choke is stuck. The choke is the butterfly like things on top of the carb (under the air cleaner). These should open up after about a minute.

Q: Will a 2000 V6 mustang be able to win a drag race against a 87 Monte Carlo SS with a built I roc z engine?
The Monte Carlos engine came out of an I roc z camaro. Its a 350. It has a K&N filter, hooker headers, 30 over, exhaust and gears. The mustang has a BBK cold air intake, 4 10 gears and posi track.

A: Nope, the Monte will walk all over the Mustang. With those mods. The Mustang is a mid-15 sec car. The Monte sounds like the engine has been warmed over, I would wager that it has 3.73 gears or better. It’s probably a 13 second car.

Q: 87′ monte carlo with a 4-11 rear end. When I go over bumps or push down on the rearend has a bad squeek?
. When I go over bumps or push down on the rearend their is a bad squeek. I hard squeek with a grind. Is it my bushings or my shocks?

A: could be both since the shocks have bushings in them. have a friend push on car and you listen from under it, you should be able to pin point it then.

Q: Will a edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor bolt on and fit on my stock 87 Monte Carlo SS intake manifold?
I wanted to know because I have 1edelbrock 600 cfm carb to go on my 87 Monte SS and my Rochester quadrajet will need to be rebuilt and I have no time for that

A: Edelbrock carbs are a spreadbore carb exactly like a Quadrajunk, bolts right on.

Q: What would be the best set up for a 350, going into an 87 monte carlo SS?
It bored 4 over. Has a forge crank. I have the block. I am trying to decide what type of carb, headers, cams, and etc.

A: comp cams make the best cam kits on the market as for your carb get a demon specially if you want to drive it every day they make great carbs.If your not going to drive it every day and you just want full throttle power try a good edelbrock.

Q: What type of trans would a stock 87 monte carlo with a 305 have in it and is this a strong trans or junk?

A: either a 200r4 or a 700r4
