can anyone tell me where i can find a diagram of a manual back transmission bearing for a 1998 ford f150?
no i am not stupid but i believe stupid and manual is spelled stupid and manual. thanks anyway.
and also 2 thumbs up for spelling mechanic correctly.
A: Go here in Internet explorer (won’t work with other browsers)
http://www.transtarindustries.com/catView.asp?ID=40
click download to download complete manual
Go to page 50 of book (In .PDF it’s page 54 of 120) and it will have a break down of the M5OD R1/R2 transmissions that were used on the 98 f-150s
Q: How does a 1998 Ford F150 just lose a rod bearing out of the blue ?How much would it cost to fix?
I was driving then the engine started knocking so i jus t stopped driving and called one my friends he’s a mechanic he told me the truck had lost a rod bearing.
The truck has 148,000 miles. How much would it cost to just fix the rod bearing since i had just installed a new motor about 35000 miles ago?
A: Lots of reasons, the most common being a sludge buildup that plugs up the crankshaft oiling holes and the bearing runs dry. You didn’t mention the miles on the engine but a 98 truck probably has more than a few.
The only right way to do it is painful. Engine bottom end rebuild, and since the heads are off, you might as well do the whole job.
We are talking $2,500 to $3,500 in big bucks.
Q: Where can I get an AC knob for a 1998 Ford F150?
Does anyone know of an online store that sells just the regular knob for the air conditioning for a 1998 Ford F150?
A: For the price you would pay for shipping and waiting for it, you’d be better off going to a junk yard and getting one of a junk truck. A part like that usually isn’t going to have too much wear and tear so they should all be in pretty good shape.
Q: How do I find the sale value of a 1998 ford f150 that needs a new engine?
standard cab, xl, 4.2 Liter v 6 engine
I’ve tried the online blue books and have called several salvage yards for their price, checked older classifieds, are there any other suggestions?
I have compared it with similiar cars, the dilemna is that I only found one other car of the same make/model with a bad engine that had a “sold” price. It was in another state. Most of the other cars for sale are in decent condition. The online blue books don’t evaluate the price of cars that need new engines. If anyone has a link to one of those sites that will do that. I’d appreciate it. thx
A: Knock 70% off the KB price would be my best guess. If it’s nice it may be worth a couple grand if that.
Q: How much, with labor, will it cost to replace a 1998 Ford F150 heater core?
I am leaking green fluid and I am seeing and smelling gas come up from my air vents. Does this mean that my heater core is shot, or could it be a seal or a hose? What is the average cost on replacing the heater core? Thank you!
A: about 6 hours labor…..at 80$ AVERAGE SHOP RATE
Q: Where can I find a repair manual for a 1998 Ford F150 in Spanish?
My sister lives in Costa Rica and wants me to find this thing for her. Thank you for any ideas. I have not yet been able to find the appropriate year.
Yes, it seems the 1998 F150 is difficult to find. I have not had much luck.

Q: can anyone trouble shoot a 1998 ford f150 or direct me to a trouble shooting guide?
4.6 liter Triton V8, misfiring on 1 & 6 cylinders, coil failure indicated and replaced, still having the misfire issue, any suggestions?
i’ve had the guides, yes, helpful, but currently short on funds.
yes, there are two coils, we changed the one indicated with some performance improvement and plan on replacing the other based on this.
A: swap the spark plugs from from different cyclinder. if still there try swaping the coils from different cyclinders (just cause there new doesnt make them good). last try swaping fuel injectors from diffferent cyclinders. check the pcm drivers for the the injectors, manuel compression test and fuel pressure test as well
Q: How do i fix my kill switch problem on my 1998 Ford F150?
Well my alarm stopped working, so my father cut my alarm wires and told me to use the kill switch button. So i have been using that for awhile now, yesterday the kill switch stopped working (the little black thing you push in). My question is can I replace it or is there another way to go about this?
A: It’s likely a standard switch you can jumper across it to get the truck to run , then can either replace it with another or get another hidden one to replace it with
Q: I have a 1998 Ford F150 and I was wondering about putting in a gas Additive. Should I? What is the best brand?
Just trying to find better ways to save gas. I dont drive it alot now and I dont drive over the speed limit. A full tank lasts about 10 days If 3 or more days it just sits at home. I dont drive it over 20miles a day. I see alot of additives at Autozone but dont no which one to use or if I should use one at all.
A: The additive will clean your fuel system, however it will also build up on your plugs electrodes.
So after running the solution you will need to remove your plugs, clean and re gap them.
You will notice a power decrease and most often a hesitation after running these cleaners.
I run the cleaner GUNK ALL IN 1 every year , it works wonders for the fuel system parts but it cakes up on the plug tips reducing ignition.
I drive a 17 year old F150 with a 302, 5.0 liter engine and it has over 750,000 miles on it with out any work done to the heads or block.
Expect hesitation problems after running this tank , it will be the plugs caked up. After you clean the plugs it will run perfect from then on.
Q: Can I take my 1998 Ford F150 to Mexico on vacation and sell it before I fly back?
I am driving to Mexico and staying with my fiance’s family in Cordoba, Veracruz for the summer, then flying back.
A: This is one of those Mexican policies that is continually changing. There are a lot of “Ifs”
If you are the owner and don`t have an FM3 , you can Not import the truck. You can buy a temporary permit for 180 days and then the truck has to be taken out of Mexico.
If your soon to be wife is Mexican she can take it in after the import taxes are paid, ($800.00 USD) and sell it provided the title is in her name. She can take and you can drive it as long as she is in the truck. Any variations and the truck can be seized.
To be certain you may want to call or visit a consulado de Mexico for all the exact facts
Q: my 1998 ford f150 has a knocking noise that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side head.?
It sounds like a rocker arm or something. Or can it be the cam sprocket?
A: It could be a rocker arm, or possible you may be misfiring. I am not certain, if your service engine light is on, go to autozone and get a free diagnostic scan done, see what it says.
Q: How much does it cost, including labor, to replace a water pump for a 1998 Ford F150?
A: generally about 20 for the pump. 100 to put it on. Depends on if you take it to a dealer, which charges book hourly rate, or a local shop.
Q: i have a 1998 ford f150 truck, it will not charge the battery alt. any ideas?
i have a 1998 ford f150 truck, it will not charge the battery alt. any ideas? Alt is good, battery is good 12.50 oms. Any ideas? Need help.
A: Yes as the person above stated is right, you dont want to ohm out a battery you would want to check the DC voltage of the battery, thats a different indicator on the meter.
1) with the car off check battery voltage -put the black lead on the neg battery cable and the red lead on the positive battery cable–should be 12-12.8volts
2) then crank the car put the leads of the volt meter the same way , you should then read 13.8-14.6 volts
If 1) is read properly your battery is good if not bad or dead cell in battery
If 2) is reading below 13.5 or you still read the 12 battery volts then your regulator inside the alternator is bad.
OH yeah almost forgot check fuses first also there is an inline on some cables and fuses under the hood in the fuse block, check them all, also could be a broken or loose wire from the alternator to the battery, so check those also and corrosion free connections like Jim said, before ruling in a bad alternator,….
Q: How do you replace the heater core on a 1998 ford f150 or how do you take the dashboard out?
A: you dont have to take the dash out. take the glove box door off, remove the glove box. the is a cover with some bolts directly below it, take the cover off and the core will be exposed. get under the hood, take the heater lines loose. install is reverse of removal. shouldn’t take over half an hour. good luck
